Lola Rosa Café is a vegetarian shack-like restaurant situated a few feet away from the Milton Gates of world-renowned McGill University. Friends of mine have been raving about this place for some time now. I’ve been reluctant to stop by, but today, my lovely co-worker and I decided to go for lunch. I feasted on the Hemp Burger while she had the Black Bean Burritos. My meal was accompanied by a bland garden salad and tangy chickpea salad. The hemp patty’s texture was mushy, similar to that of a roasted eggplant. It was unquestionably a very unfamiliar but enjoyable experience. It’s poles apart in taste from my usual burger guzzling, but it’s a tasty treat. It’s served on a huge sesame seed bagel from St. Viateur and garnished with brie, Portobello mushrooms, pickles and tomatoes. It could certainly do without pickles, and if caramelized onions and roasted garlic bits were added to the mix it would surely take the burger to another level. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it as it was.
If you’re looking to eat light and healthy, this place is totally worth checking out. Did I mention it also has a great view of the cute university boys walking past the restaurant? Yeah, I’ll definitely be coming back for more.
