Last week, after a scrumptious lunch, we set off to Juliette et Chocolat for some dessert. This cute cafe is a safe haven for chocoholics and anyone with a sweet tooth. Its lovely interior, friendly staff and delicious treats round up studious students, sickeningly sweet couples and chatty friends from all over town.
My companion indulged in the Intense Brownie, and it was INTENSE. It’s highly concentrated and extremely rich, dense but moist, and sweet but with a hint of saltiness. Casually drizzled with chocolate ganache and served warm, it’s almost impossible to eat without a tall glass of milk or unsweetened coffee to cut through the complexity of its composition. This modestly sized square packs a really big punch, no wonder it’s one of the most popular items on the menu.
I had The Medley - basically a jazzed up Intense Brownie. It’s a blissful combination of all things good in the world: chocolate, ice cream and more chocolate. The Intense Brownie serves as a base for a scoopful of vanilla ice cream. Hot fudge comes in a separate vessel and should be poured over the ice cream, hence smothering it with more chocolately goodness. Again, a tall glass of milk or unsweetened coffee shouldn’t be taken for granted in this situation; be sure to order some. As a whole, this decadent dessert showcases contrasting characteristics (warm/cold, sweet/salty) that merge together to create sinful pleasure.
With the cold winter just around the corner, I can already picture my friends and I sitting by the window on a lazy afternoon, chatting up a storm with hot drinks in hand and delightful treats to warm up our insides.
